Beat Me!
A minor project completed during the Physical Computing course as part of CIID Interaction Design Programme. “Beat Me!” is a game in which players beat controllers to the rhythm of a music track playing in the background. Whoever is keeping the best time throughout the track emerges winner.
At intervals players are instructed to change the part of their body they are using to beat the controllers, adding a sense of mayhem.
The project uses Processing (with the Minim audio library) and Arduino. Processing analyses the MP3 stream in real time to detect beats before messaging Arduino which measures the input from two capacitive touch sensors before calculating each players score. Score data is returned to Processing for display on screen. Faculty on this course were Massimo Banzi, David Mellis and David Gauthier.
